Biography

David Low was a political cartoonist, caricaturist and illustrator. He was born in Dunedin, New Zealand and educated at Boys’ High School, Christchurch. Low was self-taught, although he did a short spell at Canterbury School of Art. He arrived in London in 1919 and started working for the “Evening Standard” in 1927. He subsequently worked for other newspapers and periodicals, producing over 14,000 drawings over a period of 50 years. He was knighted in 1962.
