Biography

German Daguerreotypist, active in the 1840s-1860s. He emigrated to the United States in 1834 and worked as a lithographer and print publisher in Washington. Haas was the first person to produce a Lithograph from a Daguerreotype, an image of John Quincy Adams, in 1843. After having lied about his age to join the army, First New York Engineers, in 1861, Haas was struck with ill health and subsequently left the army in 1863. Little is know of Haas beyond this point.
