Alexander wears a grey double breasted suit and waistcoat and a blue tie.
A letter from the artist to the Club Secretary, dated 21 March 1945, describes the circumstances of creation: "This drawing (19 x 15) was done by myself when I worked for the old weekly "Graphic" & allied weeklies from 1900 onwards. Sir Geo. Alexander gave me a special sitting at St. James's & was very pleased about it - It was, I think, considered a good likeness & it seems a pity that the drawing is not hung somewhere he was known. I did a good many portraits of various important people of the time & I have given some of them to relatives, clubs & institutions. If the Club would like to have the drawing, please let me know & I will send it to you".
Sir George became a member of the Garrick Club in 1886.
