Bancroft wears black shoes with brown stripes, grey spats, brown trousers with vertical grey stripes, a grey jacket with tails, a white shirt, and a black cravat with a pearl stick. He has a large blue flower in his button-hole.
There is another caricature portrait of Bancroft by Pellegrini in the National Portrait Gallery (5072 watercolour 56.2 x 34.3) signed “Ape”. It dates from about 1880 and shows Bancroft as Captain Hawtree in T. W. Robertson's “Caste”.
