Elizabeth Farren (?)
Watercolour on ivory; oval
"Miss Farren now Countess of Derby" (on verso)
RW 427R (unknown sitter by Horace Hone)
CKA 427R (attr. Horace Hone)
1833 London, Queen's Bazaar, Oxford Street, "Mr Mathews's Gallery of Theatrical Portraits" (329)
The sitter wears a pink dress and an elaborate coiffure typical of the late 1770s. Despite the inscription, her identity is not secure. Mathews 329 appears amidst a group of miniatures and might easily be this small and doubtful work.
