Exhibition history

Garrick Club Exhibition 'Laughter Lines - Actor Members of the Club in 'Garrickature'' (August - December 2019), Curated by Dr Mark Bryant

Two figures: a large portly man on right (Corney Grain) in evening dress, with his left hand in his trouser pocket, holds his right hand over the head of a little thin man (George Grossmith), who is also in evening dress.
[The identification of the figures was made after the publication of Ashton 1997. That of George Grossmith was made from a photograph, and that of Corney Grain from a "Vanity Fair" caricature.]
Both were piano players. Grain was a regular at German Reed's Gallery of Entertainment, while Grossmith became a major Savoyard with Gilbert and Sullivan.
