This portrait by Arthur Ambrose McEvoy depicts Sir Johnston Frobes-Robertson, towards the end of his acting career, in the role of 'The Stranger' from Jerome K.Jerome's play, 'Passing of the Third Floor back'. Johnston Forbes-Robertson starred in the play on Broadway in 1909, and its revival in 1913, and also the silent film, which was made in 1918.
