John Philip Kemble's sword.
Sword belonging to John Philip Kemble. Gifted to J.Cooper in 1817, the year of Kemble's retirement from the stage. On the reverse of the scabbard it says it has been made by S.Brunn, Cutler to HRH Prince of Wales, 56 Charing Cross. On the sword itself is a very faint and worn motto which says: "Nemo me impune lacessit", which means "No one can harm me unpunished". The is the motto of the Royal Stuart dynasty, at least since 1578-1580 as it appears on coins, the motto is also used by the Order of the Thistle and three Scottish regiments.
