Letter dated 20th Dec 1844, Washington City / D.C.]: 'My dear Friend / I thought a line from this country would be agreeable to you; the more especially as I have the pleasure of informing you. I have been doing immensely; the press has been lavish in my praise; and the dollars followed in proportion; tomorrow I travel south to New Orleans singing at the intermediate cities; then to the Havannah and Mexico; afterwards ascend the Ohio; touch the Canadas and in the summer sail to England; to attend the Birmingham and Norwich Festivals; I shall remain but one year; and then return again to America. ... [continues with some description of social conditions] / ... Addressed: 'Post Paid / Nicholas Torre Esq / Music Hall / Leamington / Warwickshire / Great Brittain'. - Postmark stamped: 'America / Liverpool / January / 1845'.
The letter is written on the verso of the porgramme for a concert given by Henry Phillips in Philadelphia, 10 October 1844.
