Manuscript letter dated Chester, 6th Nov. 1790: / Dear Madam / I recd. your favour to which I should have returned an immediate answer according to your request, but no post leaves this town on a Fryday - Finding the life of a manager very unpleasant, & that I might endanger my popularity as an actor by continuing in it, I sold my share in the Theatre to Mr. Whitlock, about two months since. I have no engagement to prevent my accepting an offer from Mr Harris, but Ithink it proper to observe to you that, it is my fixed determination not to give up my present situation under a less engagement than for three years ...' ... signed: Jos. Munden / Mrs Munden desires her best compts'. - Addressed: Miss Chapman, No. 16 Henrietta Street Covent Garden'. - A reply to a letter from Charlotte Jane Chapman writing on behalf of Thomas Harris of Covent Garden. - The blank leaves have been re-used for presumably the draft of a further letter in another hand - i.e. Miss Chapman's, being her subsequent return to Munden - including drafts crossed through
