ALs dated Jany 31st 1797. 'The Proprietors of Drury Lane Theatre wish to recompense Mr. Powell in the most liberal manner on account of the Pantomime of Harlequin Captive - but some doubts having arisen respecting the recompense proposed, the Proprietors cannot admit the same to be paid under expressions of dissatisfaction from Mr. Powell they therefore agree to refer the compensation to a friendly arbitration again declaring that they desire every circumstance in favour of Mr Powell's [pretension?] to have the fullest weight & that they [shall be perfectly under such a decision?] to be justified in paying him even a greater sum than he appears to expect. Mr. Holland was named by Mr. Powell. Mr. Court by the Proprietors, as arbitrators with Permission if necessary to name an umpire. Witness J. W. Jones?] [Four signatures at the foot of the document, the last of which is 'Cord Powell'].
