Biography
Jane Bannister was the actress daughter of Charles Bannister (see Index of Sitters). She first appeared on the London stage as Amelia in “The English Merchant” at the Haymarket Theatre on 27 August 1783. After several more performances in London, at Drury Lane, she acted in amateur productions given by the Earl of Barrymore at the theatre in Brighton. At the latter place she married the actor James Swendall in 1790 and passed the remainder of her career in provincial theatres. She was still alive in 1829. Her portrait of her father was engraved in 1804.
