Biography
Belt exhibited 20 works at the Royal Academy between 1873 and 1885. (S0037 was shown there in 1885.) He was involved in a libel action, which he won, and which lasted from 1882 until 1884. It was claimed that all his works executed between 1876 and 1881, including the statue of Lord Byron in Park Lane, London, were in fact by two of his assistants.
