Biography

Born in London of German descent, Dressler studied at the Royal College of Art and in France. He stayed with Ruskin in 1886 and later became a member of the Art Workers’ Guild. He established his own foundry in Chelsea and exhibited sculpture busts and medallions at the Royal Academy from 1883-1899. He then met William de Morgan and together they invented the tunnel kiln. Later in his life, Dressler went to live in Paris, and then in the United States. S0055 has now been identified as the theatrical manager and theatre builder Sefton Henry Parry.
