Biography
Richard Lane was born at Berkeley Castle, Hereford, in 1800. His mother was Thomas Gainsborough’s niece. At sixteen he was articled to Charles Heath, the renowned line engraver, becoming himself an able engraver and later, lithographer. He also produced a large number of sensitive pencil and chalk portrait drawings.
