Biography
Henry Wyndham Phillips was the younger son and pupil of the portrait painter Thomas Phillips RA (q.v.). The son, too, worked chiefly as a portrait painter. Christopher Wood points out that he was also a Captain in the Artists’ Volunteer Corps and Secretary to the Artists’ General Benevolent Institution.
