Biography

Charles Turner was one of the most eminent of English engravers. Born at Woodstock, he entered the Academy in 1795, at first working for Boydell in Bartollozzi's style, although later he turned to mezzotint and aquatint with partial use of the point. He was particularly successful as an interpreter of Turner and he engraved 23 numbers of the "Liber Studiorum". After being appointed mezzotinto engraver in ordinary to the King, he was elected an associate engraver of the Royal Academy in 1828.
