Biography

Anton Pavolich Chekhov was a Russian Doctor, playwright and writer of short stories. His works explore the themes of love, unfulfillment, and boredom. He is most famous for the plays 'The Seagull' (1896), 'Uncle Vanya' (1900) and 'The Cherry Orchard' (1903). He became associated with the Moscow Arts Theatre in 1899, when they chose 'The Seagull' to perform in their first season. It became a success and helped to cement the reputation of the company. After his marriage to the actress Olga Knipper, he wrote ‘The Cherry Orchard’, which premiered a few months before Chekhov’s death in 1904 from Tuberculosis.
