Biography
Kachalov was a Russian and Soviet actor. He joined the Moscow Arts Theatre in 1900 and remained there until 1948, playing over 55 roles in his 48 year career. He played the original character of Tuzenback in ‘The three Sisters’ and Tofimov in ‘The Cherry Orchard’. He also played Hamlet in the famous production by Stanislavski and Edward Gordon Craig. During the civil war he and some fellow actors were unable to return home, and so toured eastern Europe and southern Russia as the Kachalov Group.
