Biography

Jane Elizabeth "Eliza" Thomson was born in England but spent much of her childhood in Australia, where she earned a reputation as a child prodigy on the stage. In 1843 she married Charles Frederick Young, an Australian comedian and actor. She supported G.V. Brooke on his Australian tour in 1855, before making her name on the London stage in 1857-8, at Samuel Phelps' Sadler's wells, the Haymarket, and the Lyceum. In 1862 she divorced Young and in 1863 she was married to Hermann Vezin. It is said that the death of her child in 1901 left Mrs. Vezin deeply distressed. In 1902 in Margate she died after jumping from her bedroom window. J. Parker, ‘Vezin , Jane Elizabeth (1827–1902)’, rev. J.
