Biography
Charles Wheeler was born in 1892 at Codsall near Wolverhampton. He was a South Kensington Royal Exhibitioner and started exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1914. He executed a large number of public and corporate commissions. In 1942 he became a Trustee of the Tate Gallery. In 1956 he was elected President of the Royal Academy, a post he held for ten years.
