Joseph Arden, pictured as No. 23 in O’Neil’s large canvas of a game in the Billiards Room, was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Antiquarians. He was elected to the Garrick Club on 18 January 1834 and died in January 1879. He was the author of “The Orations of Hyperides for Lycophron and for Euyxenippus” (1853).
