Biography

The singer Maud Branscombe first appeared on the New York stage in 1876 as Cupid in “Ixion” at the Eagle Theatre. At the Lyceum in New York on 10 March 1879 she appeared as Hebe in pirated productions of “H. M. S. Pinafore” and in 1880 in Philadelpia and Baltimore with the D’Oyly Carte organisation in “Pirates of Penzance” and “H. M. S. Pinafore”. She was performing at the Adelphi, London, in 1882 and 1883. In February 1889 she played Cinderella at the New Theatre Royal, Liverpool. In 1892 her name was mentioned in the “Era Almanac” mail box. Maud Branscombe was reported ‘the most constantly photographed beauty of her day.’
