Biography
He was born on 21 November 1802, the son of the great Joe Grimaldi (q.v.) and his wife Mary (née Bristow). According to his father’s memoirs, he made his stage debut in 1815 at Sadler’s Wells as Friday in “Robinson Crusoe”. His first appearance of record occurred with his father at Covent Garden in 1819, when he played Chittaquae in the pantomime “Harlequin and Fortunio”. He proved to be too poorly disciplined for the stage, and although he continued to be engaged at Covent Garden and elsewhere, he betrayed his high promise and died of delirium on 11 December 1832.
