Biography
Born on 19 October 1836 at Biddick Hall, Durham, Lambton was the fourth son of William Henry Lambton (brother of the 1st Earl of Durham) and his wife Henrietta, a daughter of Cuthbert Ellison of Hebburn, MP. After Eton, he entered the army in 1854 and served for many years, in the Crimea, Egypt, and the Sudan. After rising to the rank of Major General in 1890 he retired in 1892. Lambton was married to Alice, the daughter of Robert Lister. He was elected to the Garrick Club in February 1868 and died on 2 March 1908.
