Biography

Elder sister of actress Ellen Terry and grandmother of John Gielgud. Made her debut on the Bristol stage as a child, and then in 1851 at London's Princess's Theatre in the debut role as Robin in a juvenile production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. After a short tour, she retuned to London to perform on several West End stages including The Lyceum and The Olympic, then later The Adelphi. She made her farewell to the West End in 1867 as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Following her retirement from the stage Terry married haberdasher and silk merchant Arthur James Lewis. She retunrned to the stage twice, in1898 and 1906, the later for her sister's jubilee. Terry died in London, aged 79.
