Biography

The actor and director Timothy West was born in Bradford. His first appearance on the stage was at the Wimbledon Theatre as the Farmer in "Summertime" in 1956. In 1964 he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, where his many roles have included Tubal in "The Merchant of Venice" and Prospero in "The Tempest". In 1974 he played Falstaff in both parts of "Henry IV" at Bristol, and the following year he was appointed artistic director at the Forum Theatre, Billingham. 1974 saw him taking the leading role in "Macbeth", before embarking in 1975 on the RSC tour of Australia, USA and Canada. He has made various film and television appearances, and is a frequent broadcaster. He is married to the actress Prunella Scales.
