Wyndham, who became a member of the Garrick Club in 1886, leans back on a table with his left hand supporting him and his right raised over his head. He wears a coat, long waistcoat and knee-breeches.
Wyndham first acted Garrick in a reworking of Robertson’s play at the Criterion on 15 November 1886 and it became an immense success. For the popularity of Wyndham’s portrayal of the great 18th-century actor see G0860. He built three important London theatres. The Criterion, the New (now the Albery), and of course, Wyndham’s.
