Half-length in a feigned oval. Aickin wears a dark blue jacket with brass buttons.
A stipple engraving by J. Heath, after a half-length portrait of Aickin by Anthony Devis, was published by J. Heath & J. P. Thompson in 1800.
James Aickin made his debut on 6 November 1767 at Drury Lane, as Young Belmont in "The Foundling". He was an active player at that theatre during Garrick's management and throughout the 1799-1800 season. He was one of the committee of actors appointed in 1776 to set up the Drury Lane Theatrical Fund.
