Lady Traffic is shown half-length and her green velvet dress has slashed puff sleeves that reveal a white lining as well as a zigzag decoration in gold braid round the square neck. She has a grey muslin shawl over her left arm and there is a visible trace of an earlier painting beneath the layers of paint on the canvas (pentimento) around the fingers of her right hand.
