Mary Ann Keeley has strikingly fair hair. She wears gold bracelets; the bracelet on her right wrist contains a miniature. Goodman began the portrait soon after 16 January 1884. He exhibited another portrait of her at the R. A. 1888 (880) called "Mrs. Keeley in her 83rd year."
In her earlier years Mrs Keeley excelled in “pathetic appealing parts like Nydia in ‘The Last Days of Pompeii’ and Smirke in ‘Nicholas Nickleby’” (OC). Her greatest portrayal, according to the OC was that of the title-role in “Jack Sheppard”, in which the highwayman was presented as a "wild youngster".
