Elizabeth clasps her hands yearningly. Her gold tiara has red jewels and a row of pearls, and her blue dress has white slashing edged with pearls, and is trimmed with lace and ermine.
Jones's tragedy was first performed at Covent Garden on 21 February 1753, with Esther Bland as Queen Elizabeth. Despite the parts mentioned in the Harris and Mathews catalogues, Mrs Pope is almost certainly depicted playing Queen Elizabeth, the role mentioned in the “Morning Herald” of 22 March 1794.
