The sitter is seated, three-quarter length, wearing a brown jacket over an open knecked shirt. He gazes away from the viewer with his hands clasped above his lap. The portrait was painted the year that Attenborough appeared in the films "Sea of Sand", "Dunkirk" and "The Man Upstairs".
