MISS. E. DALY AS THE LADIES HIGHWAYMAN
Provenance
Donated to the Club in 2016 by Mrs Jules Barton on behalf of her Aunt, Mrs Joan Rowe, who is the daughter of Frank Pettignell, English actor (1 Jan 1891-17 Feb 1966).
This is a hand drawn, coloured ad tinselled copy of Miss Ellen Daly, playig the role of the Ladies Highwayman, as she did for John Thomas in 1841. It is a copy of a tinsel print such as those sold by Webb or Johnathan King, showing the same character in the same position. The materials used, such as the backboard and felt suggest that this is possibly a 20th century copy. The Walnut veneer frame though is very like those used for the original tinsel prints, and may be 19th century.
