The actress Estelle Winwood is depicted wearing a red Tam O' Shanter hat, a Chinese-esque shawl, a pearl necklace and trifoil brooch, possibly the costume for an unidentieid role. Estelle Winwood was credited with being one of the oldest working actresses; the last film she appeared in was 'Murder by death' in 1976 when she was 92. She died when she was 101. Estelle Winwood was born in Lee, London and trained in Liverpool but moved to America in 1916, she divided her time between the two countries. This painting by Olive Snell was possibly painted in the 1950's.
