This sketch of the british actor, designer, director, artist, and son of Ellen Terry, Edward Gordon Craig, was made in 1920, by artist and theatre designer Albert Rutherston (born Rothenstein). Edward Gordon Craig and the artist's brother, William Rotherstein were good friends and moved in the same artistic theatrical circles. In 1915 Albert Rutherston gave a lecture at Leeds University, which was ater published in 1919, called 'Decoration in Art of the Theatre' where he called Edward Gordon Craig "...the greatest genius and inspiration the theatre has in our time".
