The making of this cushion is tentatively attributed to Lady Martin-Harvey, as she is known to have enjoyed embroidery and would often work on costumes for her husband and his productions.
The embroidered bells by Irving's signature suggest that the designs pictorially illustrate a famous role played by each actor.
