The gem by Nathaniel Marchant was exhibited at the Scociety of Artists in 1773, no 168 "A sulphur from the intaglio. Mr Garrick turning to a bust of Shakespear with this exclamation: Quo me rapis tui plenum?" The inscription alludes to Horace Odes III.25.1-2, Quo me Bacche rapis tui plenum, 'Where, O Bacchus, are you carrying me off to, so full [of your wine]?'.
