Purchased from Wooley&Wallace in 2012.
This was inspired by the memorial to William Shakespeare at Poets’ Corner in Westminster Abbey. It was executed by Peter Scheemakers after a design by William Kent and erected in 1740 by the 3rd Earl of Burlington (Richard Boyle), Dr Richard Mead, Alexander Pope and Tom Martin. A similar figure was made at Derby.
