Farnell teddy bear: sand coloured with painted glass eyes, stitched nose, and felt pads to paws and feet. Possibly an 'Alpha Bear'. Christopher Robin Milne was given an Alpha bear by his mother, Dorothy, when he was a year old, purchased from Harrods in 1921. The bear was named after a Canadian Black bear at London Zoo called Winifred,(or Winnie for short), after the Canadian town of Winnipeg. Pooh was the name given by Christopher Robin to a swan he used to feed. The model for the illustrations for the books on 'Winnie-the-Pooh' was actually a Steiff Growler bear owned by Graham Shepard, E.H.Shepard's son.
