An 18th-century fan with black lacquered guards, with gilt and mother of pearl diaper decoration, black sticks and paper leaves, painted in watercolours with figures enacting a scene from a Shakespeare play. The central figure is intended to be Shakespeare or a portrait of David Garrick en grisaille, leaning on a pedestal with busts at the base. Reverse plain (unfinished).
