Wooden box, inlaid with a personalised plaque. Top lifts up and the front cover opens forward to reveal a top level tray containing space for two compartments for water, or large circular pots, two smaller circular compartments containing pots with black lids of makeup. The central square seems to have a sponge within, and at the back is a tin, slightly damaged, with its own black lid.
Below are one full width drawer and six smaller half width drawers, containing sticks of Leichner makeup and other brands. There are also what appears to be two wax false noses, a sponge, and a couple of plaits of hair (one grey, one red), sticks for applying eye makeup.
The cosmetics may not be Johnston Forbes-Robertson, but may belong to the donor's mother, dancer and journalist, Elizabeth Scorer.
