This lithograph is after the drawing dated 1771 by Nathaniel Dance, now held in the National Portrait Gallery NPG 3640. A further example of the lithograph is in the Victoria & Albert Museum S.1066-2009 and is inscribed "Mrs Garrick at an advanced age, Drawn on stone by Miss D Rackell PF." An inscirption attached to the verso of the frame gives brief bioraphical details for Mrs Garrick and describes the drawing by Dance as "'Mrs Garrick at the breakfast table. Made in 1771' which is I believe in the possession of Mr W E Image of Heeringswell House, Suffolk (who married Kitty Garrick's goddaughter) or his desendent." The Dance drawing was indeed presented to the National portrait Gallery by Miss Katherine R Image in 1948.
