Engraving of Charles Kean as Frederick in Elizabeth Inchbald's 1798 play ' Lover's Vows' after a painting by Thomas Charles Wageman in the Folger Collection. Charles Kean played the role while at the Haymarket theatre in the 1828/29 season. It is here that he first met and played opposite Miss Ellen Tree, who was to become his wife.
