This print depicts the actor and comedian Charles Mathews as Dick Cypher in the musical farce 'Hit or Miss'. The farce by Pocock was first performed in 1810 at the Lyceum, with Charles Mathews as the original Dick Cypher. The character has just driven his three horse tandem very danerously to the country house of Mr Jumble. He wears a long white coat with many capes, and flourishes his whip. Behind him is his tandem and three horses, which are parked by a toll-gate. The Toll gate keeper appears to be pointing the way.
This is the printed heading to some verses which have been removed. The British Museum have a similar print in their collection after Isaac Cruikshank.
