This print depicts the comic actor Henry Gattie in the role of Monsieur Morbleu in the play 'Monsieur Tonson' by William Moncrieff. The play, which is a two act farce, is set during the French Revolution. Monsieur Morbleu is a barber by trade. He is depicted full length, wearing a blue jacket and breeches, white stockings and a white apron. He also has an exagerated bow tie and ruffles at his neck. His hair is styled with two rolled curls over each ear and his head shaved except for a quiff at the front. At the back he has his remaining hair styled into a pony tail.
