This print after a photograph, depicts the actors Charles James Mathews, John Lawrence Toole and Samuel Phelps in their roles for the comedy 'John Bull', which they performed at the Gaiety Theatre, 1873. Charles James Mathews, on the left is depicted seated, wearing a top hat, riding boots and a long coat. He has one hand in his pocket and one holding a walking stick. In the cetnre is John Lawrence Toole, in the role of Dennis Brulgruddery. He is shown standing, wearing a green waistcoat and a brown over coat, he has his left thumb tucked into his waistcoat. On the right is Sameul Phelps in the role of Job ThornBerry. He is also depicted seated, wearing blue coat and trousers, riding boots, and a yellow waistcoat. He has one hand resting on his thigh while the other is holding a walking stick. This print was an illustration in The Graphic Magazine, 1874.
