This print depicts Charles Mathews behind his usual cloth covered table. He is depicted wearing womrn's clothing. Surrounding him are eleven characters that either Charles Mathews or Frederick Henry Yates played. The two gentlement met in 1817/1818 at a ball, and Yates then travelled to Paris with Mathews. Mathews convinved Yates to become an actor and the two performed together and from 1828 co managed the Adelphi together.
