Print of Charlotte Cushman as Meg Merrilies, a gypsy woman, from Act II Scene IV of 'Guy Mannering' by Sir Walter Scott. 'Guy Mannering; or, The Astrologer' is the second of the Waverley novels by Scott, published anonymously in 1815. The print was etched by J. R. Rice and published by Gebbie & Co. Cushman is shown wearing a long tunic-style dress with drapery, sandals, and a head scarf tied with black ribbon underneath her neck. Her face appears quite aged, her arms are outstretched in opposite directions, and a portion of long wavy hair cascades down her front. A long wooden stick leans against her left arm and she is standing in a backdrop of trees and heathland.
