This print depicts the comedian John Liston in the character of the nosey busy body Paul Pry. He is depicted in his usual clothes of striped trousers, black boots, a blue coat, top hat, holding an umbrella in one hand and his pince-nez to his eyes with the other hand. A grumpy looking red nosed banker is seated behind a desk on the left, holding a quill in one hand, with another tucked behind his ear. A third man is entering the bank through the door on the right. Cartoonists often used the character of Paul Pry to question or mock the establishment of the 19th century. In this case Paul Pry is probing into the affairs of the Bank of England.
